Rob Hoskins was the founder of the firm’s ERISA and Insurance Law Department. He graduated from law school in 1989, handled his first ERISA case in 1991, and won his first big ERISA case in 1992. When he began handling ERISA cases, the practice as a plaintiffs’ attorney was practically non-existent in South Carolina, but Rob quickly built himself and his practice up as one of the most knowledgeable ERISA attorneys in both the State and the Country. In the span of his career, he handled thousands of ERISA and insurance cases of about every type imaginable. He argued cases at Federal Appellate Courts on a regular basis and even took a case to the United States Supreme Court and won (LaRue v. DeWolff, Boberg & Associates, Inc., et. al., 128 S. Ct. 1020 (2008)). Rob was known across the country as very knowledgeable, honest, and tenacious. He often represented clients not for the value of the case, but instead for the interest of the matter of law at hand.
Rob was well known to practice at the highest of ethical standards. He was AV rated through Martindale-Hubbell, recognized by “Super Lawyers”, and named multiple times in the Best Lawyers in America. He published dozens of articles and publications and was a frequent speaker on ERISA matters.
Rob’s legacy lives on every day within the firm. We continue to handle ERISA and insurance claims to the high ethical and professional standards that Rob instilled in us. Rob helped thousands of individuals and medical providers in his career and always took pride in helping each person regardless of the value of their case. To this day, the Foster Law Firm still models its ERISA and insurance practices after Rob’s excellent example.
